SINGLE CHANNEL VIDEO positions objects as both the visual and metaphorical hero, giving a deeper understanding of the relationship between the self, the object and society.
In a gallery space dominated by a floor to ceiling projection screen, a showcase of significant objects is presented, accompanied by narration from an unseen presenter.
Within this structure, surrounded by shelves full of everyday objects, ordinary people present to a camera what is meaningful and significant to them, each taking the time to present their items, answer questions, and share their opinions and personal narratives. A power play between the self, the object and the viewer unfolds, oscillating between heart-breaking histories, curious collections and oddball opinions.
With echoes of Antiques Roadshow and internet unboxing videos, SINGLE CHANNEL VIDEO gently dismantles claims of the surface to be entire, revealing that behind the common and sometimes banal, lies the profound.
