17 April 2014 Geelong After Dark

Back to Back Theatre will participate in ‘Geelong After Dark’, an exciting new event that will light up central Geelong on Friday 9 May 2014. ‘Geelong After Dark’ brings spontaneous performances, music and art installations to our home city’s cultural hub.

The VORTEX is an unpredictable theatrical construction, a meditation on and a metaphor for the fragility of our world in a time of changing climates. The VORTEX is the generative, meditative image from our most recent major work SUPER DISCOUNT. We invite you to discover it for yourselves.

Audiences will be admitted at 30 minute intervals.

30 August 2013 SUPER DISCOUNT: Changes its Identity

Back To Back Theatre’s new show, previously titled Laser Beak Man, is now called SUPER DISCOUNT. The work has evolved considerably in the year that has passed since this co-production between Back to Back Theatre, Sydney Theatre Company and Malthouse Theatre was programmed and we are super excited to bring it to you in the coming months.

The world premiere season will be presented at Sydney Theatre Company’s Wharf 1 from 20 September to 19 October, followed by a season at Malthouse Theatre from 13 November to 1 December 2013.

SUPER DISCOUNT follows the classic narrative of a hero fighting back from early set backs to a new position of insight and strength. Sticky notions of identity, representation and power are pulled apart and investigated with humour and candour. Back to Back’s arresting new work will receive an extra super-charging by choreographer Antony Hamilton.

SUPER DISCOUNT will be one of the most original and provocative theatre experiences in 2013. Back to Back Theatre’s work is rich, challenging, surprising, beguiling and intelligent and SUPER DISCOUNT will be unlike anything audiences have seen before. Don’t miss it!

Journey with us to the realm of heroism, via the imaginative genius of our ground-breaking ensemble.

24 June 2013 Robot Roadtrip - the final destination!

Back to Back Theatre’s experimental performance laboratory Theatre of Speed Group, have recently completed the creation of an alternate world – a world where robots rule.

Working over a four-week period in collaboration with Cake Industries, the Robot Roadtrip workshop transformed the Back to Back studio into a foreign realm fully equipped with a police station, sausage roll factory, drive-in theatre and more – where the good, the bad, and the somewhere in-between were free to roam the duck-taped thoroughfares.

Using 3D printing techniques with direction from media artists Dean Peterson and Jesse Steves, each robot donned the carefully crafted figurine of its creator before venturing into the eery urban landscape.
